2008 Baja
On the 9-hour drive back from Rochester, NY the club was already discussing the design of the 2008 Baja car. We will be building an entirely new chassis that will be designed entirely in Solidworks. The drivetrain will be entirely re-designed with many new components that we will be experimenting with throughout the rest of 2007. The goals for the new car are to drop the gross weight by 14%, design a transmission to complement our CVT, and improve ergonomics within the cockpit.
2007 Baja
The 2007 Baja SAE car successfully competed in the RIT event in Rochester, NY. We decreased our overall weight by 10% from the 2006 car, our suspension produced 13″ of travel up front and 11″ in the rear, and the new Comet CVT worked flawlessly all race long. We did have a few issues in the front steering knuckle construction as well as the drivetrain which will all be fixed in the new 2008 Baja car.
2006 Baja
ECU Motorsports saw 2006 as the inaugural year of the Baja SAE team. The team was successful in building a competitive Baja car in only 6 short weeks. The competition-ready Baja car weighted 681 lbs, which is on the higher end of the Baja car field. Being only one of a dozen vehicles still able to drive after the five-hour-long endurance race, the team is proud to have successfully built a strong, competitive Baja car.
